But unknown to many, a long time ago some Japanese businessmen did do the unexpected by utilizing ad campaigns such as offering product samples and using mass media to market food products. One such product is monosodium glutamate, under the brand name Ajinomoto that has reached each and every corner of the world thanks to the pioneering spirit of Saburo Suzuki, the son of one of Ajinomoto’s founders who used all available means and some creative thinking to aggressively market MSG making it a household name in the food industry.
The term thinking-out-of the box was in place way back in the early 1900’s when in the tiny nation of Japan they were marketing and advertising MSG as a household name that to this day is testament to one of the world’s most successful marketing campaigns in recent history.

A confident person exudes it even when he is not talking. This is the kind of attitude you should have if you are going for a marketing job interview.

Going into the interview with a confident attitude will be immediately apparent to the interviewer. The impression will be that you are confident because you know your job well. Reinforce this by answering the questions with an air of authority. Make sure that you are talking clearly and not mumbling or stumbling over words. If you’re feeling nervous, collect yourself. Take deep breaths and do some light stretching exercises like neck flexes just to relax you. Of course, don’t do the stretching exercise where anyone can see you.

As a woman struggling in the male dominated IT industry, I would hate, absolutely HATE, to have to leave an interview room with the words “Actually, we’re looking for a male…” ringing in my ears. Of course, this has never happened to me yet. But I know this does in a lot of industries all over the world.

So how does an employer avoid a potential gender related lawsuit from happening? There are several ways to but I would like to focus on one of them: gender neutral job interview questions. To have gender neutral evaluation means that the items on your list must favor neither the male nor female population in your company. Questions that highlight and emphasize the advantage of one gender over the other can imply a discriminatory act towards the implicit underdog. Family orientation and religious background should also be avoided when conducting interviews. There have been cases when the domain names of companies websites have been changed by force for having gender oriented biases. One can never be too careful, especially in a highly competitive world.

Focusing more on skill set and level, educational background, and working experience are a standard
in any interview. And the rating of such categories in making decisions are as equally important. The use of factor point rating method is an analytical and quantitative method of evaluating applicants with different backgrounds and experience. Of course, it is common for interviewers to look more into the personality and potential character trend of applicants. However, having quantitative methods in the selective process can come in handy as well.

Before and after college I was privileged enough to attend job interview seminars and workshops. Of the several I have attended, each one gave different tips from totally different employer angles. It was a little perplexing at first. How should I know which one I should take when one principle totally contradicts another. But I came to realize soon enough that all those tips given would be of value.

Every employer and interviewer has his own unique personality that is based mostly based on background and environment. However, there are basic types questions that are always present in any kind of interview. These are (1) open-ended questions, (2) closed-ended questions, (3) hypothetical questions, (4) leading questions, (5) multi-barreled questions, and (6) behavioral questions. Being prepared and doing your homework before an interview is the best way to deal with the first three types. For leading questions, having a positive direction in your answers is the key. Mutli-barreled questions can be a little confusing, and since interviewers are checking your reasoning skills, it is best to make sure that the questions are well understood before giving and answer. When in doubt, having the question repeated is not such a bad idea. Lastly, the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) approach is best for answering behavioral questions.

So whether you are being interviewed for a marketing position in Australia business directory or an IT consultant in a Software development firm, having these basic tips will get you right through the initial interview without a glitch.

Usually, we look for an organization that has good reputation and a place where we could work comfortably. We also consider factors like financial conditions, how long it has been in the industry, how big the company is, and it’s location. Since internet is a click away, information like this are searchable and you can even take a look on their annual stockholder’s report as well as their vision and goals. Otherwise if such info is not readily available, you can ask your interviewer about anything you would like to know.

You don’t need to wear flashy clothes or branded perhaps and blouses that are plunging neckline since this may distract the interviewer. At the same time, for girls, wear light make up and simple jewelries. This is not a party so you don’t need to show off. Be simple but at the same time, impress your interviewers.
